Nigeria Bar Association gets new president

Village square reports  YAKUBU MAIKYAU ( SAN) EMERGES AS NIGERIA BAR ASSOCIATION PRESIDENT  Yakubu Maikyau (SAN) is the new Nigeria Bar Association president . He  emerged winner of the Nigerian Bar Association presidential election held on July 16th ,2022.  Electoral Committee of the Nigerian Bar Association (ECNBA) disclosed that 59,392 lawyers (highest ever) were accredited to vote in the election held on Saturday July 16,2022. Maikyau (SAN) polled a total of 22,342 to Joe Gazama(SAN) who polled 10,842 votes, and Jonathan Taidi(SAN) 1,373 votes.  The new NBA President was born on February 6, 1965 in Kebbi state. Maikyau (SAN) was called to the Nigerian bar on December 12, 1990, obtained a bachelor of law (LLB) degree from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Kaduna state in 1989, and proceeded to the Nigerian Law School, Victoria Island, Lagos

Delivering the judgment, justice Oluwatoyin convicted the actor for indecent treatment of a minor, sexual assault, and attempted sexual assault but was acquitted of counts one and six which were sexual assault by penetration and attempted sexual assault by penetration.

Village Square reports  LAGOS STATE GOVERNMENT ANNOUNCES MARGINAL INCREASE IN BRT FARES  Sanwo-Olu approves marginal increase in BRT fare*  _• New rate to begin on all standard routes by July 13, 2022,_   _• Mauls bailout for BRT franchise route firms to cushion the effect of operations._  To sustain the operations of regulated bus services in Lagos State, the State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu has approved a flat rate increase by N100 in fares for all Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) and Standard routes. With the increase, a bus ride from Ikorodu – TBS will now cost N600 from N500 while Berger to Ajah is now N700, up from N600. Oshodi to Abule Egba will cost N450 from N350 and Abule-Egba-CMS-Obalende will attract a fare of N600. The increase, which will come into effect on Wednesday, 13 July 2022, is aimed at ensuring the sustainability of the BRT and standard route schemes.
