Lagos-Abeokuta express way agony of two states

Village Square reports

LAGOS /OGUN RESIDENTS LAMENT THE POOR STATE OF  LAGOS-ABEOKUTA EXPRESSWAY
While much attention has been drawn to registration and extension of permanent voters card, residents and the community along Lagos -Abeokuta expressway has continued to lament the deplorable condition of the roads that link the center of excellence and gateway state.
Our correspondent who visited the road illustrated the agony experienced by commuters on the road for either doing their business or going home, a journey that is supposed to be less than ten minutes takes hours which explained the irresponsibility of the federal and state  government of the two states.
From the Kollington bus stop at the Lagos axis to the toll gate is an eye saw of a government that has abandoned its responsibilities of providing good roads and shifting attention mainly  to politics.

Mrs. Adeniyi who resides in Ifo Ogun state but plies the road daily for her business asked what is excellent in Lagos state that many productive man-hours are wasted in traffic especially as we go into the rainy season.
Chukwuma Infeayi an artisan who ply his trade in Lagos State who spoke with our correspondent said most commuters now ply one way from the Ajegunle  bus stop to the toll gate which has resulted in many death but the government seems to be unconcerned because it doesn't affect them. Where are the senators, house of representative members and state lawmakers in this senatorial district and constituencies? he asked rehetoretically !!!
An eyewitness explained  the annoying part of the shame is commuters paying higher transport fares and some miscreants who are assumed to be agents of National union of  transport workers or Lagos state motor park managers kept  collecting illegal fees on the road, as if this wasn't enough men of vehicle inspection organisation( VIO) , Federal road safety corps( FRSC) and Nigeria police( NPF) added to their woes by acting to check vehicles paper on the bad road with Lagos state traffic management officers ( LASTMA ) towing vehicles with faults indiscriminately with their arrogance and lawless attitude to member of the public .

At the toll gate end of the road, some portion of the road has been  blocked with no contractor in sight, from joju end of the road the state of the bad road was so appalling and one need to ask if Ogun state has any government in place or plan for the road, the stones  earlier put on the road did more damage than whatever it was intended, a case of misappropriation of public fund and wonder who supervised or give approval to such shoddy work.

As the government concentrates on getting themselves elected the lives of the people who are to participate in the election should also be considered .

We appeal to the authorities concerned to quickly wake up to their responsibility by doing the needful to ameliorate the pains of the people and ensure a quick fix of the road.
