Politics : Asiwaju and Emilokan affirmation
Village square report
"AWALOKAN, KAN GBEWA, ENILOKAN" This was part of Asiwaju's utterances in Abeokuta while seeking the Ogun state Apc delegate's votes towards the recently concluded All Progressives Congress presidential primary election held in Abuja , where he emerged as the presidential candidate of
the party.
In his unusual fashion of making public response to issues or rumor , the National leader of All progressives congress Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu boldly responded to some issues which caught many of his detractors by surprise.
Looking at the phrase "EMILOKAN " ( it's my turn ) showed his confidence politically that his aspiration was well planned and he prepared for it over the years and surely he deserved the party ticket more than every other aspirants.
Analyzing "Emilokan " against the background of many critics who refused to take cognizance of Asiwaju politics of " iwolokan or Eyinlokan " which many interpreted as his god-fatherism of Lagos politics which has been used years to hold sway in Lagos politics.
" Iwolokan or "Eyinlokan "has seen many beneficiaries or benefactors of his style to attained higher political offices in Lagos and Nigeria based on his sense of judgment and other factors.
Past governors in the state are examples of such where many of them were defeated some political office holders and big wig against every odds once they are Asiwaju anointed candidates.
Although the ' "Iwolokan" or Eyinlokan" which translate to " the annoited" political wheel of Asiwaju political enclave has proven over time in Lagos politics to have a positive impact in stabilizing political nomenclature in the state but recently the 2023 primary election of All progressives Congress results in the state drives toward party members revolting against such principle as many of the elected legislature aspiring to be re-elected have their nose blotted with blood due to Asiwaju focus on his national aspiration with less concentration in his hood .
After Asiwaju Tinubu had secured the APC presidential ticket, would he use his " Iwolokan" ( anointed)to save the neck of some of the legislatures both at state and federal whom their constituency considered as not good enough to be re-elected?
The All Progressives Congress primary election in the state no doubt was marred with corruption, power play, and plans by some of Asiwaju's benefactors to undermine his grip on the party structure.
In most of the local government and LCDA the state party-state chairman Cornelius Ojelabi , the state governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and some party chairmen were rumored to have played an active role in manipulating the selection of the delegates who participated in the election, thereby using the process to crumble aspiration of some legislators considered to be loyalist of Asiwaju Tinubu, especially those seeking for re-election or had spent more than two terms in both the federal and state legislature.
As usual the rumoured culprits denied this but information has it that both the speaker of lagos assembly Hon. Mudashiru Obasa and speaker house of representation Hon.Femi Gbajabiamila had in some meetings expressed their displeasure on the event and have decided to take their case to National leader and presidential candidate of the party after his arrival at grand reception organised for him in the 19th of June 2022, already many protest are on going both at the party secretariat and bourdillon home of Asiwaju Tinubu whom our source said everything would be resolved once Asiwaju is back to his base .
In a particular local government, it was rumored that the former NURTW state chairman and presently the state park manager was saddled with the responsibility to determine those to be given the party tickets in anticipation of using him as tools for the coming general election.
In all, this would " Emilokan " by Asiwaju would not be translated as means to get rid of his influence and grip on the state political machinery? Many trusted Asiwaju's political sagacity and believed that before the final date of the Independent National Electoral Commission on candidate substitution and submission of the party candidates he would extinguish the lingering fire within his followers before it snowball into a political inferno that might affect his ' life ambition '
When next you will say Emilokan ensure your back is well covered and you have results, the conviction of others that it's truly your turn.
Thanks to Asiwaju for adding new words and dimensions to Nigeria's democracy dictionary that generation yet unborn would grind forever ' EGBEWA, EMILOKAN "
