Obasanjo, Babangida absent at president Tinubu Inaugural National Council of State Meeting in Abuja

*Inaugural National Council of State meeting in Abuja: Former President Obasanjo and Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida absent* 
The inaugural National Council of State meeting comprising former Head of state and Presidents was held on 13th August, 2024 at Aso rock at the instance of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and unanimously passed a vote of confidence on Nigeria's President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu over his achievements in the last one year since he assumed leadership of the country. 

During the meeting the former Head of state and president of the country reacted to the recent Nation wide protest tagged End Bad Governance in Nigeria, frowned upon the call of the agitators on the president to resign and re-affirmed the only constitutional requirement for change of government in Nigeria is through election. 

Briefing State House correspondents shortly after the meeting, Governor Abdulrahman Abdul Razak of Kwara state and Minister of Solid Minera resources Dele Alake said the council commended the president for the policy decisions the administration has taken so far to rejuvenate Nigeria's economy and viewed the recent protest as an attempt to disrupt the activities of the current administration.

He said at a separate Executive meeting between the governors and President Tinubu after the National council of state meeting the governors also passed a vote of confidence on the Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led administration.

Present at the council of state meeting with the president were President Tinubu's predecessors Muhammad Buhari, and Johnathan Ebele Good luck while Rtrd.General Yakubu Gowon and Abdul Salam Abubakar joined the meeting virtually, former President Olusegun Obasanjo and Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida was conspicuously absent.

State governors, deputies, ministers,
former Justices of the federation, the secretary to the Government of the federation, and the National security adviser were among those who attended the meeting of the council of state with the president.

Earlier during the meeting, the Council of State received reports from seven ministers which includes coordinating Minister of Economy Wale Edun, Minister of Works David Umahi, Minister of Trade and Investment Doris Uzoka Anite, Minister of Agriculture Abubakar Kyari and National security adviser Nuhu Ribadu on the security situation of the country and a preliminary report on the recent protest.
