On November 30, 2024, Ansar Udeen Comprehensive High School (AUDCHS) Class of '87 gathered to celebrate their 37th reunion and Annual General Meeting (AGM) at the school's premises in Okota, Lagos. This event was marked by an atmosphere of thanksgiving and celebration, as alumni returned to reminisce about their school days and reconnect with old friends.
The reunion was made even more accessible as it was streamed live on Zoom by DD Media Insight. This allowed several members of the Class of '87 living in the diaspora to participate in the event, providing them the unique opportunity to interact with their former classmates throughout the five-hour gathering.
The combination of in-person attendance and virtual participation fostered a sense of community and engagement that transcended geographical boundaries.The reunion included various activities designed to honor the memories of their time at the college while also discussing the future direction of the alumni association.Attendees shared stories, laughter, and reflections on their personal and professional journeys since leaving school.
This gathering not only served to strengthen bonds among classmates but also laid the groundwork for ongoing collaboration within the alumni network.This momentous event underscored the enduring spirit of camaraderie and connection fostered during their formative years at Ansar Udeen Comprehensive College.As the Class of '87 continues to celebrate their milestones, they are reminded of the lasting impact their education and friendships have had on their lives.
In his welcome address, Mr.Folusho Iwayemi, the Chairman of the planning committee, expressed his gratitude for the dedication and commitment of all members towards fostering a bond among alumni. He urged everyone to continue supporting the commendable plans outlined by the Class of '87.
Dauda Musa, the Deputy Head Boy of Class '87 and current Chairman of the alumni group, highlighted the significance of engaging with the Old Students Association and its numerous benefits. He remarked, "Regardless of the circumstances, your school colleagues will always want the best for you." His words underscored the lasting connections forged during their time together and the value of maintaining those relationships through the association.
Speaking from the diaspora, Ebenezer Ogundipe, the Head Boy of Class '87, took a moment to reflect on their time at AUDCHS, expressing deep appreciation for the efforts of the teachers who shaped their futures. He emphasized the importance of acknowledging the resilience and dedication of these educators, stating, "We cannot stop expressing our gratitude for the efforts of our teachers. As we have grown into adulthood, we’ve come to fully understand their resilience in helping us become better individuals. A big thank you to all the teachers who imparted knowledge to us."His heartfelt words highlighted the lasting impact of their guidance and support on the lives of the students.
He expressed his heartfelt gratitude for the efforts and contributions of his fellow classmates from Class '87, both in the diaspora and at home. He acknowledged their dedication, commitment, and financial support, which have been vital in keeping the association strong.
"I would be unfair not to appreciate all my colleagues from Class '87, both those abroad and those at home, for dedicating your time and resources to make this reunion a reality," he said. He specially recognized the members of the planning committee, led by Folusho Iwayemi, for their outstanding accomplishments.
"To everyone, let’s continue reaching out to more of our colleagues and inviting them to join us. Happy 37th Anniversary celebration!" His words emphasized the importance of unity and collaboration in celebrating their shared history and fostering connections among former classmates.
The reunion event was not just a time for feasting and entertainment; it also included valuable presentations aimed at equipping attendees for the future. Olufemi Sholaja, along with other guest speakers, led insightful discussions on planning for retirement and addressing important health issues.
In addition to the enriching presentations, the event celebrated outstanding contributions within the community. Awards were presented to several individuals, including esteemed teachers like Mrs. Bashorun and Mr. Odeyemi, in recognition of their dedication and impact on students’ lives.
Highlighting academic excellence, the best students from the school in the recent WASSCE 2024 exams, Abdul Salaam Abdul Mojeed and Adeniyi Zeenat, were honored with certificates and cash prizes of #100,000 each.
Furthermore, the Class of '87 from AUDCHS made a generous donation to the school, providing uniforms and mathematical sets to support current students in their studies.
This combination of celebration, education, and community support underscored the spirit of the reunion, reinforcing the bonds between alumni, current students, and educators alike.
A special donation was also presented to one of the alumni, who had recently been blessed with the gift of a child after many years of waiting. This heartfelt gesture celebrated the joy of new beginnings and demonstrated the community's support for one another in times of personal significance.
Mr. Odeyemi, a former teacher, spoke via online video on behalf of the award recipients. He expressed deep gratitude to the Class of '87 for their generosity and kindness. He encouraged the alumni to continue their efforts in service of humanity and to remain committed to supporting the school that provided them with their foundational education. His message resonated with the audience, emphasizing the importance of giving back and nurturing the ties that have bound them together over the years.
