Awori and Non-Indigene Stakeholders, Oshodi and Lagos West Senatorial District reject Ayo Gbeleyi as Lagos State Deputy Governor nominee for Apc
SPECIAL GREETINGS TO ALL STAKEHOLDERS IN LAGOS WEST SENATORIAL DISTRICT
As discussions continue regarding the choice of the Deputy Governor of Lagos State ahead of the 2027 general elections, concerned Awori and non-indigene stakeholders across Oshodi and the wider Lagos West Senatorial District deem it necessary to make our position known to our great party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), the Governance Advisory Council (GAC), and our revered leader, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu (PBAT).
The office of Deputy Governor is not merely ceremonial. It is a strategic position that requires a blend of political relevance, grassroots connection, technocratic competence, and unquestionable loyalty to the progressive family.
At this critical juncture, we respectfully urge our leaders not to be parochial in their judgment. The political contribution and long-standing commitment of individuals to the party must be given due consideration. The era when such a sensitive position was treated as an afterthought should be left behind.
We are particularly concerned about any attempt to foist on the party a candidate who:
- Has little or no political value within the grassroots structure;
- Has openly disparaged politicians and treated party faithful with disdain;
- Is disconnected from his constituency and resides far away from the people he claims to represent;
- Has never empowered party members, supporters, or even his immediate community;
- Maintains an arrogant disposition and lacks humility;
- Rarely engages with party stakeholders but now seeks to benefit from the very system he once looked down upon.
We call the attention of the Governance Advisory Council (GAC) to the need for a Deputy Governor who will be accessible, accountable, and responsive to both party leaders and the people of Lagos State.
The Awori people of Oshodi and Lagos West have no shortage of competent, educated, politically experienced, and grassroots-oriented sons and daughters who can complement the governorship ticket and deliver electoral value.
Therefore, we say:
- No to a candidate who has never empowered anyone in Oshodi.
- No to pride and arrogance.
- No to a self-centered aspirant who does not support party faithful.
- No to an individual who is detached from grassroots politics but seeks to benefit from the collective efforts of committed progressives.
We specifically reject the candidacy of Gbeleyi Akinyemi Pat Ayo and urge our leaders to look more inward of Awori Land for more acceptable, marketable, and politically sellable running mate with proven track record of impact of service to the party and building people than someone who only parades credentials without any significant impact in human capacity building.
We trust that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the leadership of our great party will listen to the voice of reason and act in the best interest of Lagos State and the progressive family.
E-signed:
Awori and Non-Indigene Stakeholders,
Oshodi and Lagos West Senatorial District
